Victoria is quirky, Victoria is unique, Victoria is home. I think it’s safe to say that when comparing with other cities across the country, Victoria has a certain.. Je ne sais quoi to it that makes us all fall in love. We all know and love gorgeous countryside, the amazing people, and the bumpin’ nightlife. But can we talk about the quirks? Yes, lets talk about it. Victoria is WEIRD. And we love it.

We’ve decided it would be fun to let you know the weird things about Vic that we’re in love with, and then maybe you can tell us the weird things that you love. Ok? Ok.

  • Everything is sponsored by beer. Music festivals, movie screenings, Christmas craft fairs! It’s all beer!
  • Our street performers are next level. Two words – darth fiddler.
  • Rain in the morning? Sun in the afternoon! What may seem like a dreary morning will not last, friends! By early afternoon you could be looking out upon the sun kissed shores of the beautiful West Coast.
  • We sell heavy duty snow gear, and it never gets below 0. Well, that pretty much says it all. See Canada Goose Down and other heavy duty parkas strewn through every outdoor store on Government Street.

  • Vintage is always in – fairs, restaurants, clothes you name it! Victoria is a place where you can always find something funky and antique that is entirely unique to you. And you know what, it will never go out of style!
  • It is the “Most haunted place in Canada”Totally adds to our mystique. We love how much Victorians embrace the supernatural (think Ghost Walks) and rock this tag.
  • Double decker busses for our tiny city. Riding the double decker is always a fun treat. Is our city big enough? Do they fill up? Rarely. That is irrelevant.

  • We worship the brunch gods. This collective of human beings is so obsessed with brunch foods. Head to any other city on earth and breakfast is a quick bite on the way out the door… come to Victoria and savour the event that is brunch.
  • The hidden pathways all over the city. Oh, you didn’t know? There is a vast labyrinth of tunnels under the city that lead to all sorts of places
  • Deer are friends, not food. Deer are no longer wild animals; not in Vic. Visitors are gobsmacked to see vehicles pausing at crosswalks for a family of bambis crossing the road. But for us? Just another day in paradise.
