You’ve got your brand new Nike Frees laced up, you’ve got your hair slicked back in a tight top knot, and you’ve got your get psyched playlist on blast. You are ready to push your body further than it has ever been pushed before. It’s go time.

You’ve got your workout in hand, you’ve got your friend there to keep your reps honest, you’ve got a frozen pizza reward at home ready for your return. You are ready to sweat and cry in order to justify that cheesecake you ate last night. It’s go time.

Whether you’re an elite athlete or an amateur iron pumper, I think we can all agree that a workout is so much sweeter when it is free! Where can you find such a thing? Let us tell you!

Workout for an entire week without paying a dime! This gives you the opportunity to get to know the gym and see if it’s a good fit for you. Most gyms allow trial members to try all of the fitness classes for free too! Looking for a free 7-day trial? Try Steve Nash, Goodlife Fitness or VI Fitness.

Ever heard of a community workout? These are the best! Not only are they free, but they are such an incredible opportunity to meet people just as motivated and outgoing as you! Key community classes that we would recommend are The November Project (Wednesdays 6:30am in Beacon Hill Park) and Johnson Street Yoga (Sundays at 8:30am at Lululemon Johnson Street). Remember, these classes are free to the entire community, so make sure you get there early to ensure a spot.

Do you have a passion for cardio but hate getting your pump on solo? Join up with a run club! UVic has an incredible run club that works out twice a week and caters to every level of runner, and Lululemon also has a free run club that goes on Friday evenings from the downtown location. These are great networking opportunities in the fitness world, as well as fantastic chances to get out and see areas of town you wouldn’t normally run in.

Last but not least, we could not conclude this free workout post without mentioning the abundance of incredible hikes available on the island! Mount Douglas, Mill Hill, Mount Finlayson, Thetis Lake, Swan Lake, Pickles Bluff, Gowlland Tod Park… The list goes on! Take in some beautiful views while getting a complete butt-kicking workout free of charge.

Students – be sure to check in and see if the class you are taking/ gym you are working out in has student rates. Most offer a significant discount when you show your student ID!

No matter your fitness level, we encourage you to get out there and be your healthiest selves! With these free classes, there is no reason not to!
