This chart topper is no surprise! Located in the heart of downtown, The Empress Hotel is hands down the most iconic hotel on the island. When you search Victoria on the internet, The Empress comes up, when you think of a fancy dinner or a lavish spa treatment, The Empress is the only way to go. Opening its doors in 1908, this hotel is certainly one of the most historic buildings in Victoria. It has been referred to as “the mecca” and “the heart and soul of the city”. The Empress is a must-see, even if you don’t end up staying the night.

Can you say spa haven? The Oak Bay Beach Hotel is the holy grail of spa treatments and a picture of serenity. With natural mineral pools overlooking the ocean, exquisite charcuterie platters and top notch estheticians, this Inn is your relaxation destination. Heading downtown? Chateau Victoria
Home to one of Victoria’s top restaurants, Vista 18, Chateau Victoria is known for its grandeur and recently updated rooms. Nestled in the heart of downtown, Chateau Victoria is perfectly located for ocean activities, nightlife, and good eats. Their complimentary shuttle will see you to many locations including the Save On Foods Centre to take in a concert or a Royals game.
James Bay Inn
This hotel is iconic for it’s vast history. Built in 1911, the James Bay Inn has been in operation for over a century. The design was such that every room of the 100 available faced outwards and had ample sunlight and space to take in nature. Over the years the James Bay Inn has transformed. It is still most certainly a little gem here in Vic.
Strathcona Hotel
Known for its iconic bars and buzzing nightlife, The Strathcona is definitely one of the most well-known spots to stay in town. Between the Sticky Wicket, Distrikt Night Club, Rooftop Bar, and Big Bad John’s, there is no shortage of spots to sit back and enjoy a pint. Coming on a weekend? Prepare to enjoy the party until 2am, when the bars close.
Bonus: if you’re more into the communal/backpacking/low key brand of vacation, the Ocean View Hostel is the place for you. It is most certainly the most well-known and iconic hostel on the island.
