Spending a perfect day in Victoria, BC is not a tough endeavour. There is always so much to do, see, eat and enjoy that I could think of hundreds of permutations that would all equal an incredible day spent in this gorgeous city. As I sit here, enjoying my steaming hot tea, overlooking the crashing waves of the ocean from Breakwater Cafe I think back to one of my most perfect days spent in Victoria…
You wake to the soft pitter-patter of light rain tapping the windows of your bedroom. The rain is so peaceful here. Never fear about the weather folks, because knowing Victoria, this spitting should clear up by mid morning.
Dallas Road is breathtaking in the mornings. If you wake up early enough you can catch the stunning sunrise as you breath in fresh, dewy air. The foot traffic on Dallas Road is testament alone to how much of a gem this location is. Everyone is enjoying the outdoors with friends, kiddos, and pups!
It isn’t even a question as to what comes next – brunch in Victoria is sacred and a must on weekends. Spots like Floyd’s, Jam, Picnic Too, or Nourish are abuzz with patrons coming in to get their late morning meal. Pick a spot you like and enjoy some of Victoria’s finest morning time cuisine.
After brunch, the world is your oyster. Heading down to a place like fisherman’s wharf is always a good idea. You can feed the seals and hang out with the friendly otter. You can check out the adorable floating houses and soak up the sun over the harbour.
If the outdoors isn’t your thing, head on over to the Royal BC Museum to check out their feature exhibit, or wander into the Parliament Buildings for a free guided tour! If you’re feeling extra adventurous, check out the Craigdarroch or Hatley Castle, the Empress or the Christ Church Cathedral. Take in some of the incredible history of the island in these awe-inspiring buildings.
By the late afternoon you’ll want to get back out in nature – and believe me, there is no shortage of hidden gems near Victoria for you to see. Wander over to Mill Hill, Mount Douglas, Beacon Hill Park or Fort Rodd Hill to take in some serious views.
For dinner the downtown core is your spot. Delicious eats can be found almost anywhere (Did you know that Victoria has the most restaurants per capita in Canada?)! May I recommend a spot that features our local seafood? Pescatores, Il Terrazo, Red Fish Blue Fish, and Ferris’ are all top picks for tasty eats.
In the early evening we recommend taking in some saturday night fireworks at the Butchart Gardens. Explore the beautiful arrangements in Canada’s “Garden City” at the source. At 9:00pm, grab a picnic blanket and settle in for the show!
A perfect day in Victoria is simply not complete without some craft beer. Take in the nightlife at one of the many bars on Government Street, or get your dance on at Upstairs Cabaret! Although our city is small, we have some great options for casual drinks or serious partying.
Wander home for a restful sleep…drifting off to the soft pitter-patter of that light rain. Rest up and get ready to do it all over again tomorrow!
