The holidays are upon us. You know how I know? I know because Costco’s aisles are now featuring Easter baskets. I also know that the holidays are here because of the craft fairs, and Christmas parties and festive warm beverages taking the city by storm!

Whether you’re a Scrooge or a Cindy Lou Who this Christmas, there is no time like the holidays to spread a little good karma and take care of those less fortunate than yourself.

We understand how stressful and busy this time of year can be.  Between staff parties and family dinners and shopping it is difficult to find time to breathe let alone volunteer. We get that. That is why we are proposing this year you make a donation to help those in need!

There are tons of spots to donate goodies this holiday season!

Local Shelters like Our Place are in need of warm clothes this winter. If you have gone through your closet and found anything that you no longer wear or that no longer fits, wander on down to a local shelter and hand them off to those in need. Think coats, jeans, and really anything that is in good condition.

Food Banks need as much help as possible this Christmas season. No matter where you are in Victoria, there is a food bank nearby that would very much appreciate your donations! Local food banks include UVic Food Bank, Goldstream Food Bank, Sidney Lions Food Bank, Sooke Food Bank and Mustard Seed.

If you’re not sure what to donate this year, here’s a list compiled by Mustard Seed of what is needed most this winter:

Take advantage of some of the creative ways to show your support. For example, this year Mustard Seed is setting up camp in Mayfair Mall to offer gift wrapping by donation. Save yourself some time and the inevitable tears of frustration that accompany wrapping while supporting a good cause. Best of both worlds!

Feeling motivated to spread some good karma? An easy way to collect for the Food Bank would be to have a donation basket at your staff party, wacky gift exchange, or ugly Christmas sweater mixer. Every little bit goes a long way – there is never a donation too small.

How are you giving back this holiday season? Let us know!
