Ladies and Gentlemen, prepare to have the most exciting workout of your life at BPM spin studio.
I’ve had the pleasure to sit down and chat with owners Keelan and Sally at their Johnson Street studio to learn all about the BPM mission.
Sally and Keelan opened BPM six short months ago, in August of 2016. Their aim? To provide the people of Victoria with a new and exciting option for spin. And boy, did they deliver! Every aspect of this studio and its business plan have been thought out with tremendous attention to detail, and serious style. It took months for Sally and Keelan to settle on a location. They chose a beautiful modern building with exposed brick and high ceilings. Best of all, the studio is located across from one of the few parkades in the downtown core. The first hour of parking is free, so spinners can attend a 45 minute class without paying a dime for premium downtown parking! I don’t know about you, but this was a MASSIVE selling point for me.
Let’s talk equipment. The spin studio is equipped with the “Keiser M3i spin bike, which offers a superior ride through magnetic resistance, digital display, 24 gears, and wireless Bluetooth technology” (Cue Steve Urkel meme) . This means that you can work out, and then download your results straight to your iPhone. For the diehards, having the opportunity to track your progress and create fitness goals is something that is rarely found in a spin studio. BPM also provides towels, spin shoes, heart rate monitors and lockers free of charge.
Once you’re suited up and ready to rock, you will step onto the dance floor – sorry – spin floor. Pump up music, disco balls, laser lights and a big screen TV adorn the studio. You’ve never had a workout quite like this!
There are between 4 and 6 classes available daily, with a variety of incredible instructors. It is recommended to sign up online in advance to ensure yourself a spot in the class. Prices and packages are all available online with no auto-renewing and no sneaky fine print. If you’re looking to try out BPM, your first spin is only $5!
As if all this wasn’t enough – We’re about to hit you straight in the feels…
BPM is committed to giving back to the community. Every Wednesday, BPM hosts a KARMA class by-donation with all proceeds going to the Island Prostate Centre. They’ve organized pink shirt rides for anti-bullying, they’ve worked in themed rides with proceeds going to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, and they continue their commitment to the community by encouraging spinners to organize charitable events at BPM as well.
From movie night spins (complete with popcorn) to western classes for the country lovers, BPM is constantly innovating and keeping things fresh.
