The Royal BC Museum is introducing its newest feature exhibit, and we are so excited to check it out! Terry Fox: Running to the Heart of Canada will take you through the years of health, sickness, struggle and triumph.
Terry’s story is truly miraculous. At the young age of 18, Port Coquitlam, BC’s resident, Terry Fox, lost his leg due to bone cancer. When all others would have felt defeated, this young man rose up and shifted his perspective. He shifted his perspective to one of hope, and thus began the “Marathon of Hope”. With an unparalleled goal in mind, Terry set off to run across Canada in order to raise money for cancer research. Starting off in Saint John’s, Newfoundland, Terry ran every day until his cancer returned. He was forced to abandon his journey in Thunder Bay, Ontario, and passed on June 28, 1981, at the age of 22.
Terry Fox is survived by his memorial sculpture located at Mile 0 along Dallas Road in downtown Victoria and through the annual Canada-wide Terry Fox run.
The Terry Fox exhibit is open from April 12 to October 1, 2017. Tickets to the Royal BC Museum range from $11 to $27, and hours of operation are 10am-5pm daily.
