“Just pizza? Let me tell you about the thing you say is “just pizza.” We begin with the first bite. Aww the crunch, and then marinara, that roiling lava of tomato and oregano it overtakes you. I’m falling. And that’s when she catches you. That chewy voluptuous mistress Mozzarella. Oven-kissed cheeks crackle with warmth in your mouth, cradling the sauce and the bread letting you know from now on this is home. This pizza… It’s home.” – Marshall Erickson
We at Victoria Hype are almost as passionate about pizza as Mr. Erickson himself. So we figured it’s time to throw down our 5 favourite pizza joints that really are home to us.
Brickyard
Oh Brickyard, you oldie but goodie. There have been many a night wandering downtown in search of something delicious and winding up back here. Great quality pizza with consistency makes this joint reliable and yummy! Heads up, it is a counter service spot so make sure to head up to order.
Famous Original
A newer location, Famous has hit the scene hard and wowed Brooklyn style pizza lovers across the city! Here you can find massive slices on a thin and soft crust that are served by the slice or on the equivalent of a big screen TV. We’re not even kidding – reinforced tables are required to handle these massive pies. When you’re done munchin’, head to the back for some old school skee ball.
The Joint
If you’re looking for a delicious slice down by the water, The Joint is the joint for you! What sets this za apart from the rest is the flexibility of ingredients. Here you can find a pizza for every dietary restriction; dairy free, gluten free, vegan, and all other allergies. Their pizzas are creative and unique. There is certainly something for everyone here.
Famoso
Family Friendly! Finally a spot that caters to the kiddos. Famoso is known to give out free gelato as well as some free pizza dough for the kids to keep them occupied while they wait. The pizza is tasty and the pricing is moderate. If you’re craving an appy or desert as well, Famoso delivers with delicious pizza alternatives.
Pizzeria Prima Strada
Definitely a fan favourite, Prima Strada gets a ton of good press! Oven fired thin crust deliciousness. This is the stuff that Marshall Erickson was talking about! Authentic cuisine with scrumptious and fresh ingredients is what you will encounter here.
