Ahhhh, there is nothing like a calm sunny day in Victoria to help embrace the art of relaxation. Our favourite recommendation is to pack up some little nibbles and treats and head out for an afternoon picnic! If you’re new to Victoria, or perhaps feel like you’ve exhausted all of the best picnic spots, never fear! We’ve got you covered with our top 5 picnic spots in town:
Beacon Hill Park: An oldie, but a goodie, Beacon Hill Park is full of serene and stunning picnic spots! What we love the most about BHP is that every time you go, you can set up camp somewhere unique and all your own. Whether it be by the rose gardens, the moss lady, the big bridge or the bluff overlooking the ocean, there is always space for some private quality time.
Mount Douglas: At the summit of Mount Doug is where you’ll find the most incredible views of the city. As a drive or hike in location, you may choose a small day pack or a large and lavish picnic set up. There are a number of rocky outcrops calling your name. Recommendation: visit at sunset – Victoria’s cotton candy sky will take your breath away.
Swan Lake: When I think peaceful, I think Swan Lake. Located near Uptown Mall, Swan Lake is a beautiful nature reserve with a full loop wooden boardwalk surrounding the lake. Pull up a seat at one of the picnic benches and enjoy the quiet beauty of the lake.
Saxe Point Park: One of the reasons that Saxe Point Park is a go-to on the picnic list is because it offers so much variety. From one side of the park you are overlooking a quiet bay, with calm waters, and can wander down to the water. On the other, you are looking towards the open ocean, with its crashing waves and vast horizon. No matter what you are in the mood for, there is a spot to plop your butt and enjoy a great view.
Dallas Road: Last, but most certainly not least is Dallas Road. We could not confine this list to simply one spot along Dallas – there are too many perfect picnic spots!! If you simply cannot choose, we recommend following the path along the sea wall, and wandering down one of the many staircases to the beach. Nothing says relaxation like your own private beach access!
Once you’ve settled in, enjoy a delicious meal with a nice hot cup of tea, or a smooth glass of wine. If that ain’t relaxation in Victoria, I don’t know what its!
