Do you love the smell of a brand new book? Do you long to flip through the pages and get lost in a world all its own? Find that next can’t-put-it-down read at Victoria’s greatest bookstores!

Chapters: What we like to refer to as the Walmart of bookstores, Chapters is a fail-safe spot to find anything you may need from cookbooks to stationary! One of the reasons we love the Victoria location so much is because of the incredible layout – the standard in-store Starbucks is located on the upper level of the store, in front of big bay windows that overlook Douglas Street. It is the perfect spot to sip a warm beverage and dive in to your favourite book.

Bolen Books: Family owned and operated, Bolen Books has lived at Hillside Mall for the past 40 years! They are one of the largest single- location independent bookstores in Canada at 20,000 square feet. One thing we love about Bolen Books is their incredible events! They have hosted so many inspiring authors and public figures, and have some amazing individuals lined up for this year.

Munro’s Books: Named National Geographic’s #3 bookstore in the world in 2016, Munro’s is a definite must see! Head down to Government Street and explore all that is Munro’s bookstore. They offer books of all subject matter, and a great selection of stationery and novelty items.

Russell Books: They are your go-to buy, sell and trade location for all gently used books! Russell Books offers new, used and antiquarian prints. Check out their second location, Books on View, for more technical materials and textbooks.

Chronicles of Crime, your Mystery Bookshop: This bookshop holds a special place in my heart for the simple reason that it is so unique! This store offers rare, used and out-of-print mystery novels. They also offer a number of services including manuscript reading. Furthermore, Chronicles of Crime teaches courses on the how-to’s of crime writing. You can tell how passionate their staff are about their business, and that passion inspires all who enter!

Legends Comics and Books: Exactly as it sounds, Legends is your source for comics of all kinds! Do you have a collection you would like to sell? Are you looking for one very obscure title? Are you looking to have your own comic featured? Call Legends! With the passion that shows in their knowledge, engagement, and their very own comic starring Perogy Cat – you know that you’re working with experts.

Ivy’s Bookshop: This little gem is located in the heart of Oak Bay. They offer new titles, greeting cards, and magazines!

*One final note – If you are a bookworm like myself, you MUST check out the annual Times Colonist Book Sale. This event happens every year for one weekend in the middle of May. The TC takes over the Victoria Curling Club and hosts the largest used book sale in town! Books are organized by genre, and the pricing scale is simple: Hardcovers $3, softcovers $2, and pocket books $1. All proceeds go to literacy programs here on Vancouver Island!

We hope that this list has inspired you to check out some of your local vendors and fall in love with the magic of reading.
